Smoking

Smoking is a very ancient practice where tobacco is primarily burnt and consumed by inhalation.  When tobacco is burnt, the substances inhaled will trigger a number of highly complicated chemical reactions. A substance known as Dopamine will be released at specific receptors in the central nervous system. Dopamines along with another naturally occurring substance called Endorphine will induce pleasure and enjoyment. This will later induce reward and addiction.

Smoking can cause serious unwanted effects. It can cause heart attacks, stroke, chronic obstructive airway diseases, emphysema and cancer.  The World Health Organization estimates that 5.4 million deaths were caused by smoking in 2004. For more detailed information about efffects of smoking click here.
